Re-Hope for Humanity: Refugees Helping Refugees in Chad

Our Story: Born from Refugees, For Refugees
Re-Hope Organization for Humanity was founded by refugees who fled war, embodying the very essence of resilience and solidarity. Our mission is clear and urgent: to provide vital help and support to Sudanese refugees displaced by conflict, empowering them to rebuild their lives with dignity in Chad.
What sets us apart is our lived experience. We understand the refugee journey firsthand because our leadership and volunteers are refugees themselves. This ensures that every programme we deliver is culturally sensitive, deeply effective, and rooted in genuine understanding of the challenges our community faces.
From emergency aid distribution to mental health support and economic empowerment, we work tirelessly to transform despair into hope, one family at a time. Our refugee-led approach means that those we serve see themselves reflected in those who serve them building trust, dignity, and lasting impact.

The Crisis: Sudan's War and Its Toll on Chad
1.3M
Refugees Fled
Since April 2023, over 1.3 million Sudanese refugees have crossed into Chad, fleeing brutal conflict and ethnic violence

Largest Crisis
Chad now hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, straining limited resources and infrastructure
The humanitarian situation is dire and deteriorating. Refugees face a daily struggle for survival, confronting hunger, deep psychological trauma, inadequate shelter, and severely limited access to healthcare and education. Families who once had homes, livelihoods, and stability now find themselves in overcrowded camps along Chad's eastern border, dependent on humanitarian aid for their most basic needs.
The scale of displacement has overwhelmed local resources, placing immense pressure on host communities who themselves face poverty and scarcity. Without sustained international support and on-the-ground organisations like Re-Hope for Humanity, the crisis will only deepen, threatening the lives and futures of hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people.
What We Do: Comprehensive Support on the Ground
77
Emergency Aid
Food distribution, shelter, and essential non-food items delivered directly to refugee camps along Chad's eastern border, ensuring immediate survival needs are met
78
Mental Health Support
Psychosocial support programs help survivors of trauma and violence regain hope, stability, and the strength to rebuild their lives
75
Economic Inclusion
Training and micro-business support foster self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods, helping refugees become economically independent
75
Protection Services
Focused on women, children, and vulnerable groups to prevent violence, exploitation, and abuse in displacement settings
Our comprehensive approach addresses both immediate survival needs and long-term recovery. We don't just provide aid , we empower refugees to reclaim their dignity, rebuild their lives, and contribute to their communities. Every program is designed with cultural sensitivity and delivered by people who understand the refugee experience intimately.
Our Partnerships: Strengthening the Humanitarian Network
Collaborative Impact
Re-Hope for Humanity works in close collaboration with UNHCR, IOM, Safehold, and local Chadian authorities to amplify our reach and effectiveness across the region. These partnerships enable us to coordinate aid delivery, share resources, and ensure that refugees receive comprehensive support. We coordinate with humanitarian hubs like the expanded Farchana centre to deliver aid efficiently across multiple camps and settlements. Our refugee-led approach complements international efforts by ensuring that aid is not only abundant but also relevant, culturally appropriate, and trusted by the communities we serve. By bridging the gap between large international organisations and displaced communities, we ensure that humanitarian response is both effective and dignified, honouring the agency and voices of refugees themselves.

Challenges We Face: Funding Gaps and Growing Needs
Humanitarian Funding Shortfalls
Critical funding gaps threaten food security, shelter provision, and healthcare access for refugees across Chad. Without sustained financial support, life-saving programmes face suspension or closure.
Aid Cuts Risk Lives
Recent cuts to humanitarian aid risk worsening malnutrition rates, triggering disease outbreaks, and creating dangerous protection gaps , particularly for women and children vulnerable to violence and exploitation.
Urgent Support Needed
We urgently need sustained financial and material support to meet the escalating needs of both refugee and host communities. The crisis is not diminishing , it's intensifying, and our response must match that reality.
The humanitarian community faces an impossible choice: spread limited resources thinner, or leave vulnerable people without support. At Re-Hope for Humanity, we refuse to accept either option. Instead, we're calling on the international community, donors, and partners to step up and ensure that no refugee is left behind. The cost of inaction is measured in lives lost and futures destroyed we cannot allow that to happen.
